Maldives President extends condolences on former Malaysian PM Badawi’s passing

MALE, Maldives, Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has sent official condolences to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim following the death of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister.

In his message, President Muizzu expressed “profound sorrow” at Badawi’s passing, describing him as a “distinguished statesman who dedicated much of his life to public service and the advancement of his nation.”

The President highlighted Badawi’s commitment to promoting moderation, national unity, and good governance, along with his contributions to Malaysia’s economic development during his tenure.

“The Government and people of the Maldives stand in solidarity with the people of Malaysia during this time of mourning,” Muizzu stated, extending sympathies to the Malaysian government, its citizens, and particularly to the late former Prime Minister’s family.

Abdullah Ahmad Badawi served as Malaysia’s Prime Minister from 2003 to 2009, with a leadership style characterized by his emphasis on progressive Islamic values, economic development initiatives, and efforts to strengthen national cohesion.

During his administration, Badawi was known for his moderate approach to governance and his focus on sustainable development policies that helped shape modern Malaysia.
