Malé, Maldives – The President of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and Speaker of Maldives Parliament Mohamed Nasheed ensures full support for capital city Malé, Mayor elect Dr. Muizzu.

Speaker Nasheed congratulated the wins by MDP in the Local Council Election (LCE) and highlighted that MDP won majority council seats, except for Malé.

Congratulations to the Malé Mayor Elect Dr. Muizzu. My hope is that you will work hard to solve the problems in Malé. I will provide my full support.

The opposition, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) won 12 out of 19 seats in the Malé City Council, winning major seats such as Villimalé and Hulhumalé seat.

Former Housing Minister and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) mayoral candidate of Malé, Dr. Mohamed Muiz has won the Malé City mayoral election by a landslide.

Dr Muiz defeated Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate, Anas Abdul Sattar by securing 9,548 (61%) votes from the counted votes. MDP candidate Anas had received 5,757 (36.97%) votes while independent candidate Alhan Fahmy had gotten only 265 (1.7%) votes.
