Actions to be taken against those not in compliance with helmet regulations

13 November 2019 – In a tweet made by Maldives Police Service, it has been revealed that many motorists are not in compliance with the helmet regulations set in the country.

It was also announced that while this is absolutely unsafe, all persons not in compliance with the regulations would be held liable.

According to the regulations, any motorist riding in an area with a speed limit above 30km/h should be wearing a helmet, and anyone not in compliance with this regulation would be fined with an amount of MVR 750. Any motorist with a helmet that does not meet the set requirements would also be fined wit the same amount.

This regulation was gazetted in March of this year.
