The President’s Office of Maldives have declared Hithadhoo Regional Hospital of Addu City to be put out of service.
In a letter addressed to the Minister of Health, Abdullah Ameen, it was declared that upon the inauguration of the Addu Equatorial Hospital, which is a tertiary level hospital, all services of the regional hospital would be transferred to the tertiary hospital, putting the regional hospital out of service.
With this, it has been advised to transfer all employees, equipment and all other facilities of the regional hospital to the tertiary hospital.
Although the Addu Equatorial Hospital was set to be opened on the 15th of December 2019, due to being unable to set up all necessary facilities, the opening has been postponed for now.
The process of converting the regional hospital of Addu City to a tertiary one commenced during the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom.
