Elections Commission of Maldives has revealed that the electoral constituencies of the newly declared Kulhudhuffushi City would be announced some time during next week.
In a tweet sent out by the Commission, it was announced that all constituencies would be declared, along with the draw for the seats allocated for female councilors would be announced during the upcoming week.
While the President’s Office declared that Kulhudhuffushi would be granted the status of city starting from 1st January 2020, the Elections Commission previously announced that the island would get an island council comprising of 7 members instead of a city council. This resulted in a lot of backlash from the islanders, where the people even prepared for protest.
However, the Commission later announced that the City would get a city council of 6 members, where two would be female.
