Further spread of virus due to ease of lockdown may be known in a week

Male’, Maldives – The Epidemiologist of HPA, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal informed that whether the virus has spread further due to the ease of restrictions would be known in a weeks time.

“The definite result of almost everyone going outside as the lock down eased on Male’ will be known in a weeks time.”, Afzal stated. 

Afzal also disclosed that they are collecting data at present and if any changes comes to the data, there will be noticeable changes in the situation as well. He also stated that the behavior of the citizens as the lock down eased are unfavorable.

The lock down on Male’ was eased on June 15 for the citizens to go outside without any permits from 5 in the morning to 10 at night. Along with this, it is prohibited to visit other homes and for more than three people to be in the same place at a time.

However, as it is noticed that some people are not obeying these rules, the leader of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of Covid-19, Dr. Ali Latheef instructed to not go out unless it is absolutely necessary.

He also warned the citizens that if the roads of Male’ continue to be crowded, there are higher chances of the virus spreading, leading to another lock down in Male’.
