Addu City, Maldives – A decision on the fate of Gan sector in Addu City, has not yet been decided, announced SriLankan Airlines today.
Speaking to local news outlet “adduLIVE”, the Area Manager of SriLankan Airlines for Gan branch, Naymoi Tennakoon revealed that the airline management is still in discussion over the future of the sector and that a decision is yet to be made.
Nayomi further revealed that the current suspension of schedule to the sector is only until the end of July and further decisions would determine any change.
Despite the pending decision, Nayomi stressed on the importance of increasing the frequency of domestic flights by local carriers between Gan and Gaafu Alif and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, as this has always been a factor playing against the increase of load of the sector. She added that this has now increased more than ever with the shut down of Canareef Resort in Addu, for a period of two years.
At present SriLankan is the only airline traveling out of Gan International Airport on a scheduled basis.
