State of Medical Emergency extended in Maldives

Male’, Maldives – Maldives has extended the ongoing State of Medical Emergency until the 14th of July.

The state of emergency was initially declared in the country on March 12th, following the first confirmed case of Covid-19 being identified in a resort of Maldives.

While the emergency has been extended several times throughout the duration fo the ongoing global pandemic, the latest extension was due to expire today.

A signed announcement by Health Minister Abdulla Ameen issued on Monday night, read that there was still a chance for the virus to spread in the country and therefore extended the State of Medical Emergency until the 14th of July.

This also comes as Maldives moves to open up borders for international travel on July 15th as a means of kickstarting the tourism industry of the country.
