Health emergency extended in Maldives

Male’, Maldives – Health Ministry of Maldives has announced the extension of the health emergency status announced in the country due to the Covid-19 pandemic until November 5.

In a decree signed by the acting Minister of Health, Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Mohamed Aslam, it stated that the danger of the virus is still present and that he has been advised by the Director General of Public Health that this is necessary to uphold the health emergency status for the protection and well being of the people of the country.

The health emergency was first put in place on March 12 of this year when the community spread in Maldives was identified and has been extended until now. Maldives has recorded a total of 10,621 positive cases out of which 9,466 have recovered and 34 have lost their lives to the virus. The total active cases are at 1,114 with only 68 in the hospitals.
