Police planning to raid residencies of some MPs: Speaker

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service is planning to raid some houses of MPs, claimed Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Speaking in the Parliamentary sittings today, Nasheed said that Police are planning on carrying out some activities specifically targeting MPs, after highlighting that the Parliament is now in the works of drafting a Police Service Bill.

He further added that several improvements would be seen in the institution following the ratification of the bill and advised all persons from the institution to not target the parliamentary members in displeasure.

“I strongly appeal that no police officer harbor plans to pay attention, whether it is toward a residence or a motorcycle or any other property of a member of this Parliament, to an extent that they do not reserve for [properties] of any other ordinary citizen, and to specifically check members of this Parliament or search their residence in violation of the legal procedures and standards of the police, or to do this or that to a member of this Parliament.” Nasheed said.
