Maradhoo, Addu City – Wave surges which have caused over topping in parts of Addu City has the main road which links all the islands of the city flooded.
According to local video footages, the surges which started around 8 am in the morning entirely flooded the swimming track area in Maradhoo, which is a causeway connecting Maradhoo and Gauken’di area which leads to Hithadhoo.
The footage further shows that the sea level was above the small walls on the side of the causeway as waves topped over from the ocean side.
While this area is commonly affected by save surges during bad weather, this is the first time in recent history that the result has been this bad.
However, despite smaller surges being a common occurrence in the area, no permanent solution has been brought to the issue.
In a statement released by the Meteorological Center of Maldives, surges created in the southern Indian Ocean will be affecting the central and southern atolls of Maldives, which may result in wave over topping for the next three days.
