Male’, Maldives – An Iranian national who was being held in remand in the Maldives has passed away on Thursday night.
According to Maldives Correctional Services (MCS), the 49 year old Iranian who is known as Rahumatullah was seeking a long term treatment for cancer at the Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). Rahumatullah passed away at 11:49.
Rahumatullah was remanded, awaiting the outcome of his trial for drug trafficking charges at the time of his death.
Correctional Services has reported that the death of Rahumatullah has been informed to the Inspector of Correctional Services as well as the Human Rights Commission of Maldives.
