Malé, Maldives — HPA confirmed additional 133 Covid-19 cases and 75 recoveries in Maldives over the past 24 hours.
HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of August 23, and 6pm of August 24, additional 133 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:
- 103 Maldivian nationals
- 15 Bangladeshi nationals
- 08 Indian nationals
- 02 British nationals
- 02 Emiratis nationals
- 02 Sri Lankan nationals
- 01 Nepali national
Among the confirmed 133 cases, 121 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 12 were from the atolls of Maldives.
With these 133 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 6,912 confirmed Covid-19 cases, increased from 5,000 to 6,000 cases in just 09 days. Currently among these cases, there are 2,588 active cases present in the Maldives.
Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases.
Infact, the health authorities has warned of a wide community spread relating to the increase of the number of cases that are not linked to the existing clusters.
Previously the majority of the confirmed cases were of foreign nationals. However, since the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, it has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases for Maldivian nationals having the majority of the cases as well.

While 133 people tested positive for the virus today, 75 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 75 recoveries, a total of 4,297 people have completely recovered from the virus in Maldives. The recovery rate of Maldives has decreased from 86% to 62% since the lock-down easement.
Up to date, 27 have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 21 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
Currently there are 1,458 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 171 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
