Male, Maldives – Former President of Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom has tested positive for Covid-19.
Maumoon announced the result of his test on twitter, sending out a tweet which explained his health condition. The 82 year old former president’s tweet read, that he has tested positive for Covid-19 followed by a few words of prayer for the recovery of all those who are ill.

Maldives continues to see an increase in the number of new cases of Covid-19 in the country, with 135 cases on Tuesday alone. With this the number of Covid-19 cases in the country have exceeded 7,000, with 28 deaths, mostly of the elderly.
According to public health expert, Dr. Sheena, Maldives has reached a stage where a lockdown is necessary, as the health care system continues to be increasingly strained. She mentioned that nurses who used to be in charge of 5 beds per nurses, now have to cater to 30 beds per nurse.
The Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) also revealed that at present, 62% of the beds allocated for Covid-19 have been occupied.
