Malé, Maldives — Maumoon’s family informs that the formerly president, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, who tested positive for the virus is currently in good health.
The Heritage Minister and daughter of Maumoon, Yumna Maumoon recently tweeted saying that her father is in good health and that only few symptoms are visible.
Moments after the former president was confirmed positive for the virus yesterday, he announced it on social media to inform his beloved people. Maumoon is currently admitted in Dharumavantha hospital to receive additional care for the virus.
While the 82-year-old tested positive for the virus, it is known that for the virus, Covid-19, senior citizens are at the category of the highest risk.
In fact, people in their 60s or 70s are, ingeneral, at higher risk for severe illness than people in their 50s. However, the greatest risk for severe illness from COVID-19 is among those aged 85 or older, according to CDC.
The positive cases in the greater Male’ is increasing at a faster rate than it has never before. Maldives has confirmed over 2,000 cases in just 15 days, taking the total confirmed cases to 7,074. Majority of the confirmed cases in Maldives are of Maldivians and are from the populous city Male’.
Although Maldives has confirmed over 7,000 cases up to date, currently there are 2,580 active cases in the country. A total of 4,439 people are reported to have made complete recoveries as well. 28 people have passed away die to Covid-19 in Maldives.
