Temporary housing arranged for those affected in Malé fire: NDMA

Malé, Maldives — Temporary shelter is being arranged for thr people who had their houses damaged from the recent Malé fire incident.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states that for those who were affected by Friday night’s fire, they will be provided temporary shelter at the Kalaafaanu School.

A fire had broken out in a cafe’ in Henveiru ward of capital Male’ on Friday night, where the fire set ablaze to an adjacent building as well. The fire had caused significant damage to both of the buildings where several offices such as State Bank of India and Ooredoo are located.

The fire was controlled after approximately 4 hours and no people were injured during the incident.

Hisaan Hassan, the Chief Executive of NDMA spoke to AVAS and said that Kalaafaanu School will be arranged for those who require it as a temporary shelter.

While reporting that there were no casualties, Hisaan added that the authorities will be on standby to identify those who will be in need of shelter as soon as the fire puts out.
