Minister Shaheed extends condolences over deadly Afghanistan floods

Malé, Maldives — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid, sents his condolences to the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Mohammad Haneef Atmar over devastating floods in the Parwan Province of Afghanistan.

“It is with great sadness and sorrow that I received the news of the loss of lives and livelihoods, and destruction of homes caused by torrential rains and flash floods in the Parwan Province of Afghanistan”, Minister Shahid’s message read.

Minister Shahid furthermore extended his condolences and sympathies for the country, while acknowledging the tragedy that they are facing. He said that it would be undoubtedly “compounded” by the challenges of the ongoing pandemic.

“Please also convey our deepest condolences to the members of the bereaved families,” Shaheed said on behalf of the government and the people of Maldives.

At last, the foreign minister expressed hope that the efforts of the response teams continue swiftly and successfully. He also praised the “perseverance of the brotherly people of Afghanistan during this crisis”.

A torrential rain in Parwan Province has caused several devastating floods, killing at least 160 people and injuring over 250 others. In addition to that, the media reports show that the floods have also destroyed hundreds of homes in the area.
