Shahid sends condolence to late president of India, Pranab Mukherjee

Male’, Maldives – The foreign minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid signs a condolence book dedicated to the late former president of India, Pranab Mukherjee.

The condolence book was opened by the High Commission of India in Maldives and it is dedicated to the former president of India who had recently passed away.

Shahid states in his message that, it is with deep sorrow that he had to recieve the news of the passing of India’s 13th president. He then extends his condolences to Mukherjee’s family, and the government and people of India.

Shahid also expressed happiness over his past interaction where late president Mukherjee and Minister Shahid had both served in the capacity of foreign ministers.

He also highlighted about the time when, then-President Mukherjee had warmly received him in 2007, during his official visit to India.

Along with Foreign Minister Shahid, the President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also conveyed his condolences to the people and government of India regarding Mukherjee’s passing.

“India and all of South Asia mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant, whose lasting legacy will be cherished throughout the region for generations to come”, the President said.

The former Indian president, Pranab Mukherjee, aged 84, had tested positive for the virus and shortly passed away on August 31, a few weeks after he underwent a brain surgery.
