Malé, Maldives — The Addu City Council stated on Monday that they will be collecting rent payments for land plots leased out in the atoll.
The statement issued by the Addu City Council reads that, the policy change was implemented due to the under recent amendments to the Decentralisation Act, that gives city councils the right to collect land rent and fees.
It also informs that the land rent payments will be collected from September 01 onwards.
The City Council also revealed that several efforts are currently underway to bring any necessary amendments to agreements signed under other state bodies following the previous administrative framework to reflect the changes that were mentioned previously.
The land plots that will require to give rent payments include of industrial sites, garages, workshops and other lands used for business activities.
The most recent amendment to the Decentralisation Act was made by the current president of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on December 2019, where he granted considerable financial empowerment to local councils.
