Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar had earlier said that the city council is working to allocate a thousand plots of land at once.

He said that although the allocation of land for this amount will not provide a total solution, he believes that the people who need the land most will get it. He believes that the land allocation will provide a major solution to the housing problem in Addu City.

The housing problem has also grown in Addu City over the past years and the city has not allocated land for several years now. The last time land was allocated in Hithadhoo was in 2002. Lands in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo have not been allocated for 15 years while in Feydhoo, it has not been allocated land for 25 years.
