Police start manhunt to locate 11 expats who fled quarantine

Malé, Maldives — The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has started a man hunt to locate 11 expats who fled from quarantine facilities.

According to Police, all of the 11 migrant workers who fled from the quarantine facilities were Bangladeshi natives and also were undocumented and illegally residing in the Maldives.

The 11 expacts had fled from quarantine while the authorities were working on to deport them from the island nation.

Authorities have urged the public to come forth if they attain any information regarding the run-aways and to call 9631696, the police General Investigation Department immediately.

Those who violate orders that are given by the authorities are being placed under police custody as refusing to go into quarantine or remain in quarantine and fleeing from a facility is deemed as a violation under the Public Health Act of Maldives.

Due to violation of rules, several people who refused to be taken to quarantines have been taken to quarantine after the Civil Court ordered the authorities to do so as well.
