Covid-19: Additional 80 confirmed cases and 159 recoveries

Malé, Maldives — Maldives confirmes additional 80 cases and 159 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of September 03, and 6pm of September 04, additional 80 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:

  • 60 Maldivians
  • 20 Foreigners

Among the confirmed 80 cases, 77 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 03 were from the atolls of Maldives.

With these 80 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 8,361 confirmed Covid-19 cases, increased by over 4,000 in just a month. Currently among these cases, there are 2,684 active cases present in the Maldives.

Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases.

Infact, the health authorities has warned of a wide community spread relating to the increase of the number of cases that are not linked to the existing clusters.

Previously the majority of the confirmed cases were of foreign nationals. However, since the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, it has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases for Maldivian nationals having the majority of the cases as well.

While 80 people tested positive for the virus today, 159 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 159 recoveries, the recovery cases in Maldives has now reached 5,642. The recovery rate of Maldives has decreased from 86% to 67% since the lock-down easement.

Up to date, 29 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 23 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national. 6 of the confirmed cases are deceased positives whose cause of death was not directly related to Covid-19.

Currently there are 1,253 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 162 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
