Covid-19: Additional 83 confirmed cases and 116 recoveries

Malé, Maldives — Maldives confirmes additional 83 cases and 116 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of September 06, and 6pm of September 07, additional 83 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:

  • 61 Maldivians
  • 22 Foreigners

Among the confirmed 83 cases, 82 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 01 was from an atoll of Maldives.

With these 83 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 8,667 confirmed Covid-19 cases, increased by over 4,000 in just a month. Currently among these cases, there are 2,580 active cases present in the Maldives.

Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases.

Infact, the health authorities has warned of a wide community spread relating to the increase of the number of cases that are not linked to the existing clusters.

Previously the majority of the confirmed cases were of foreign nationals. However, since the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, it has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases for Maldivian nationals having the majority of the cases as well.

While 83 people tested positive for the virus today, 116 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 116 recoveries, the recovery cases in Maldives has now reached 6,052. The recovery rate of Maldives has decreased from 86% to 69% since the lock-down easement.

Up to date, 29 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 23 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national. 6 of the confirmed cases are deceased positives whose cause of death was not directly related to Covid-19.

Currently there are 1,118 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 142 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
