Two suspects arrested for possession of 3Kg drugs

Malé, Maldives — The police service of Maldives reveals that they have arrested two local youths for possession of over 3kg of narcotic substances.

According to the Intelligence reports disclosed, the two suspects arrested were of age 26 by the Drug Enforcement Department (DED). They were arrested during raids on three separate houses under a court warrant in the capital city Male’ at approximately 1815 hrs on Monday.

Police has also siezed a total of MVR 57,550 along with the contraband during this operation. No further information were revealed from the authorities regarding the operation. However, they assures that an investigation is currently going on.

The Maldivian law strictly says that drug trafficking is a serious criminal offence that can be punishable by life imprisonment and also carries a hefty fine in the range of MVR 100,000 (USD 6,485) to MVR 1 million (USD 64,850).
