Japan provides Maldives with USD 1.2 million in aid

Male’, Maldives – The government of Japan, on Thursday, has provided Maldives with aid worth USD 1.2 million, under the “Human Resource Development Scholarship Project.”

The agreement was signed by Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan on behalf of Maldives and by Mitsuyoki Kawasaki, Resident Representative of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), on behalf of Japan.

Under this agreement, Japan will be providing six Maldivian students with study scholarships to Japan, each year for four years.

Japan has been recognized to be a strong ally to the Maldives, especially in areas concerning the environment, social and educational fields. In addition to this Japan has also been extending its hand to the Maldives with help to combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as well.
