Male’, Maldives- More than 8,000 Bangladesh nationals have been sent back from Maldives during the covid-19 pandemic.
Terminal Operations manager of Velana International Airport, Ibrahim Hussain said on a Raajje TV programme, that from July 15 to the 16 of this month, 8,509 Bangladesh nationals have been sent back.
These people are being sent back in Maldivian’s repatriation flights to the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka.
Due to the Covid-19 situation in Maldives, the government has been operating flights to Bangladesh to send back undocumented workers as well as those who want to go back. Economic Minister recently stated that the government aims to send back 20,000 of the undocumented expatriate workers by the end of this year.
Out of the 9,000 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives, the second highest are Bangladesh nationals.
