Malé, Maldives — HPA announces additional 81 confirmed cases and 111 recoveries over the past 24 hours.
HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of September 18, and 6pm of September 19, additional 81 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:
- 58 Maldivians
- 23 Foreigners
Among the confirmed 81 cases, 70 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 11 were from the atolls of Maldives.
With these 81 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 9,649 confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, currently among these cases, there are only 1,422 active cases present in the Maldives.
Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases.
Infact, the health authorities have warned of a wide community spread relating to the increase of the number of cases that are not linked to the existing clusters.
Previously the majority of the confirmed cases were of foreign nationals. However, the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases for Maldivian nationals having the majority of the cases as well.
Despite this, the number of cases is now decreasing, as the peak appears to have tipped for the better.

- Lh. Naifaru: 03 cases

- Dh. Hulhudheli: 01 case

- Ga. Maamendhoo: 01 case
- Gdh. Gahdhoo: 01 case

While 81 people tested positive for the virus today, 111 people completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 111 recoveries, the recovery cases in Maldives has now reached 8,188. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 84% over the past few days.
Up to date, 33 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 27 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.
Currently there are 650 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 111 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
