Malé, Maldives — Maldives Correctional Services has decided to allow laywers to have physical client meetings with detainees inside the facilities.

On Thursday, arrangements were being made by MSC for the lawyers to go inside the correctional facilities and meet their clients.

While lawyer meetings were initially restricted by MCS due to the Covid-19 outbreak in the country, special permits from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) is now a necessity for each time a visitor wishes to enter the prisons located in Maafushi and Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll.

Despite easing the restrictions on the legal representation, lawyers still have the option to conduct virtual meetings with their clients rather than physical meetings.

If there is a surge in the number of confirmed cases, MSC warned that there is a possibility of canceling the decision to allow physical meetings with detainees.
