VP holds meeting regarding traffic issues in Male’

Male’, Maldives – Vice President of Maldives Faisal Naseem has held discussions on Wednesday afternoon regarding the traffic congestion issues on the streets of Male’, the problems faced due to parking constraints, and on solutions to these challenges.

Present at the meeting were Minister of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam, Minister of Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula, Ministers at the President’s office, Ahmed Naseem and Ahmed Sameer, along with Male’ City Mayor and senior officials from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as well as Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The Vice President is reported to have stressed on the need to implement policies that would decrease congestion and increase parking space in Male’. Among the discussed solutions were, selecting better spaces as parking areas and improving the design of such spaces, as well as improving public transportation services, preparing guidelines on loading and unloading items from buses, and implementing new methods of collecting waste.
