Male’, Maldives- President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that friendship between India and Maldives will improve with the commencement of cargo ferry between Northern India and Maldives.
The cargo ferry services, of which the first ferry departed from Cochin several days back, docked in Hdh. Kulhudhufushi today.
President Solih thanked Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Indian government in a tweet he sent out today, marking the first trip of this cargo ferry service

This cargo ferry will be traveling between Cochin, Kulhudhufushi and Male’. In its first trip this cargo ferry brought 500 tonnes of cement and other goods.
After unloading the goods at Kulhudhufushi the ferry will be travelling to Male’ port. National Shipping company said that each trip between Maldives and India takes 10 days.
