Hoadedhoo, Maldives —  Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has stated that the recent transmission of Covid-19 in the island was from a single source.

During a press conference held by HEOC, authorities revealed that they have received no evidence of any quarantine violation by those in home-quarantine on the island. The spokeswoman of HEOC, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq mentioned that the police and health authorities have already investigated the spread of Covid-19 in Hoadedhoo.

“We have yet found no proof that someone in home quarantine has violated the rules. However, the two cases we have found are independent cases from the island. Therefore, we know that there is a chain of transmission and that it is a local spread.” stated Dr. Nazla.

On September 03, the first Covid-19 case of four individuals who were home-quarantine was identified from Hoadedhoo island. However, upon testing, it was later found that two other individuals had confirmed positive for the virus, although they were not linked to the previous four positive cases.

After contact tracing and testing the contacts of these two independent cases, a total of 45 Covid-19 cases were identified from the island.
