Maldives is changing to a military zone: MP Adam Shareef

Male’, Maldives – MP of Maduvvari constituency and former Defence Minister Adam Shareef has said that Maldives is changing into a military zone.

Adam Shareef who is also the Vice President of the opposition party PNC, further added that due to this, the investments in the tourism industry will decline and that number if tourists coming to Maldives will also decrease.

He said this with regards to the opposition party’s accusations that there is a big influence of India on Maldives. The opposition also claim that there are armed forces of India in Maldives and that the government has approved agreements to build military institutions of India in Maldives.

However, the government and high ranking officers of MNDF are constantly denying that there are armed forces of India in Maldives. In addition to this, Defence Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has recently said that the government would not have agreed go build a military institution of another country in Maldives and reassured that the government will not do anything that might endanger the freedom of Maldives.
