Addu City, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has started investigating a case where a woman with disability has been raped in Hulhumeedhoo, Addu City.
Maldives Police Service revealed that a complain has been filed with the institution regarding a woman with disability getting raped in the island on the 28th of September. A 68 year old local has been arrested with regards to the case and has been held in remand for 15 days, upon being summoned to the court.
The case is being investigated further.
Maldives has been recording high numbers of violence against children and women, especially of sexual nature, during this year. This is the second time a woman with disability has been raped in Addu City during the span of two month.
Earlier on July 31st, a woman with disability was raped in Hithadhoo, which saw two rapists arrested in connection to the crime.
