Addu City, Maldives — According to Commissioner of Maldives Police Service, Mohamed Hameed, a major drug bust was carried out in Addu City today.
A media official from the police said that officers from Addu police station worked along with the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) to carry out this raid. He also said that more details will be given after the raid is complete.
In a tweet posted by the Commissioner of Maldives Police Service Mohamed Hameed, he stated that a striking number of drugs were seized along with some people. The tweet also mentions that the Drug Intelligence Unit, Divisional Intelligence Department, and Marine Police are working along with the Drug Enforcement Department and the South Police Division.

While the matter is being investigated, no further details have been made available by Maldives Police Service as of now.
Maldives Police Service has become proactive in decreasing illegal activities in the country as of recent time, with many drug and alcohol seized having have taken place all across the country. This includes the most recent drug arrest made in Kulhudhuffushi, up north of Maldives, where a 26 year old local man was arrested for possession of drugs.
