VIA records reduced air traffic in September

Male’, Maldives – Air traffic movement of Velana International Airport (VIA) has decreased last September in comparison to August.

As per the analysis publicized by the operator of the airport Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), 426 international and 304 domestic movements were recorded last September. This amounts to a total of 730 movements.This is a decrease from the 767 movements recorded in August. This includes 448 international and 319 domestic movements.

Even though the air traffic movement decreased, the number of people who came to Maldives increased in September compared to August. This includes 13,487 tourists who came to Maldives in September whereas in August, 11,186 tourists came.

Im addition to this, the number of people going to other countries from Velana International Airport decreased. This includes 13,926 people in August compared to 13,739 people in September.

Although the borders of Maldives closed down in March of this year due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, Maldives has been working hard to to become a tourist-safe zone, having have earned the title by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) on the 15th of September. Multiple resorts have since opened up with safety measures in place, to provide the ultimate vacation experience in the paradise on Earth they call home.
