Male’, Maldives – Giving out the sentencing a while ago to Former Vice President of Maldives, Ahmed Adeeb (Bro) on the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) case, judge Hassan Saeed has told that Adeebs repentance will only be accepted when he pays back the peoples money.

Judge Hassan Saeed said that even though Adeeb had repented and accepted his crimes, he still needs to think about how he got so much power and fame during such a short time and at the peak of his youth and that his repentance would be accepted when he pays back the USD 59 million which has been lost from state funds during the MMPRC scandal.

Adeeb has been sentenced to 20 years in jail and fined MVR 2 million under a reduced sentence which he got through a plea deal agreement he has made with the government on September 25, 2019. While he has been sentenced before for 33 years on different charges related to MMPRC and trying to kill then-President Abdulla Yameen in 2015. the guilty verdict on weapons possession was overturned and dropped by Supreme Court and also charges against Adeeb in Maabinhuraa case.
