Covid-19: Additional 37 confirmed cases and 63 recoveries

Malé, Maldives — HPA announces additional 37 confirmed cases and 63 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

HPA disclosed that, between 6pm of October 4th, and 6pm of October 5th, additional 37 people were confirmed for the virus in Maldives. They are:

  • 29 Maldivians 
  • 08 Foreigners

Among the confirmed 37 cases, 35 cases were found from the Greater Male’ area and the remaining 02 were from the atolls of Maldives.

With these 37 cases that were confirmed over the past 24 hours, Maldives now has a total of 10,567  confirmed Covid-19 cases. However, currently among these cases, there are only 1,099 active cases present in the Maldives.

Easing the lock-down measures in the Capital of Maldives, Malé city, has contributed a lot in increasing the number of confirmed cases in Maldives, contributing to over 90% of total cases. While the majority of the confirmed cases were initially of foreign nationals, the lock-down easement on the capital city Malé, resulted in having a large proportion of Maldivian nationals confirming positive for the virus.

However, the number of cases is now decreasing, as the peak appears to have tipped for the better. In addition to this, the number of recoveries in Maldives has also increased by a great extend.

  • L. Kahdhoo: 35 cases
  • Ga. Villingili: 01 case
  • Ga. Maamendhoo: 02 cases

  • S. Gan: 55 cases

While 37 people tested positive for the virus today, 63 people completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 63 recoveries, the recovery cases in Maldives has now reached 9,427. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 89% over the past few days.

Up to date, 34 people have passed away from Covid-19 in Maldives. The deceased are 28 elderly Maldivian nationals, 5 Bangladeshi nationals and a Filipino national.

Currently there are 432 people in the isolation facilities of Maldives and 65 people are hospitalized due to the virus.
