Male’, Maldives – Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has lowered the purchasing price of tuna by MVR 2 per kilogram.
Previously MIFCO purchased iced fishes weighing above 1.5Kgs and yellow fin tuna at a price of MVR 18 per kilogram and if not iced, then at a price of MVR 16 per kilogram. With the lowered price from October 10 onward the price of iced fishes weighing above 1.5Kgs drops to a price of MVR 16 per kilogram and if not iced, then at a price of MVR 14 per kilogram.
Fishes which weigh less than 1.5 kilogram was being purchased before at a price of MVR 10 if it was iced but with the new change they would be purchasing at MVR 9 per kilogram and if not iced then at a price of MVR 7 per kilogram.
This change comes after MIFCO dropped it’s controlled prices of purchasing tuna on September 20 of this year after 7 years. After the decision by MIFCO, Ministry of Fisheries Marine Resources and Agriculture had fixed the floor price of tuna purchases around the country for large scale processing and exporting to prevent the price from being driven too low.
