Male’, Maldives – President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been scheduled to address the nation on the occasion of the National Day of Maldives, falling on the 18th of October, 2020.
The President’s Office revealed today that the address will be telecasted from local news outlets at 10:00 in the morning.
This comes as the government has decided to postpone the special annual event held to celebrate the National Day, which also sees the awarding the winners of the Nationals Awards, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. It has been announced that a later date would be revealed on which the award function would be held.
Many of the celebratory and annual events of the country have either been cancelled or postponed this year due to the country being severely affected by the coronavirus. Currently the country is dealing with 1,117 active cases with 49 patients in hospitals, all due to Covid-19.
However, the numbers have been decreasing over the past few weeks, showing signs of hope that the country may overcome the virus all together in time.
