Malé, Maldives— The MP of Inguraidhoo, Hassan Mohamed proposes to remove the members of Anti Corruption Commission.

The MP of the Maldives Democratic Party (MDP), Hassan Mohamed stated that he will propose to remove the members of the ACC to the Committee on Independent Commissions on Tuesday.

Along with MP Hassan, there were several other MDP MPs who also claimed that they would be making the same move claiming that the members of ACC cannot be trusted anymore.

The statement comes from MP Hassan after the Prosecutor General’s Office decided that the 11 individuals, including Minister Ameen himself, who’s names were forwarded by ACC cannot be prosecuted, with regards to the corruption cited in the Auditor General’s report regarding the compliance of the Ministry with set policies and regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

While the PG Office has decided to hold a news conference to give the reasons as to why no action will be taken against the members of the Health Ministry, they stated that their decision was taken after investigating the accusations sent by ACC. Therefore, the PG Office has declined the case.

While the PG Office has sent back the request of ACC, MDP parliamentary members have previously also questioned the investigations that are done by ACC.

Furthermore, they have also raised concerns as to why the ACC is focusing on small issues rather than the bigger issues that are arising such as the MMPRC grand corruption scandal.
