Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives – Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) has announced that Kandima Maldives resort, located in Dhaalu atoll, has been placed under monitoring as of Saturday evening, following multiple cases of Covid-19.
HEOC detailed on the matter, explaining that 17 out of the 20 samples collected from the resort had come back positive and that the high risk positive patients are now being transferred to a health care facility. As the full extent of the spread of the virus is yet unknown, a team of health care professionals from Dhaalu Atoll Hospital is working on the island to carry out further testing and contact tracing efforts.
With the island being place on monitoring status, all unauthorized access to the island and departure from the island has been made prohibited. This includes any tourists residing at the resort during this time as well. Tourists who are to depart the country after completing their vacation, must also be declared as a non-contact of any positive individual on the island, and must received a negative PCR result prior to departure.
On Friday night, a 60 year old local male taken to Dhaalu Atoll Hospital from the resort, after falling ill passed away. The individual was tested for Covid-19 as he was deemed symptomatic, of which the results came back positive. This was the 38th Covid-19 death in the country.
Currently, there are are total of 800 active cases of Covid-19 in the country, while the total number of recorded cases in the country tops 11,600. However, 10,814 patients have recovered accounting for more than 90 percent of total positive cases in the country.
