Male’, Maldives – Centre For Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), the only government owned Highschool in Male’ is to have it’s operations moved to a new building near Hulhumale’ Stadium.
In a ceremony held at the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) today, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Ali and Deputy Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Athif signed an agreement regarding the project which will see the school being built on the 26,000 sqaure feet land.
When the decision was made to relocate the school, Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) had already been awarded a project to construct an 8 story building at the price of MVR 33 million, at the location. It is reported that RCC had even begun some work at the site.
In an interview to local news outlet “Mihaaru”, Ministers of State for Education, Mr. Ahmed Riyaz said that teaching is expected to begin in the new building in the year 2022, and that the building’s architectural plans have already been completed. He also added that RCC will be working on the new building as well.

One of the main reasons the government decided to relocate CHSE is the space constraints of the school, which limits the school from being converted to a single session school. Currently there are only 21 classrooms in the school which started teaching 41 years ago.
