Two arrested with 96 beer cans

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has arrested a pair of local men with excessive amounts of alcohol in their possession – a criminal offense in the tiny island nation.

The 20 and 25 year olds were apprehended during an operation carried out in Hulhumale, which saw 96 cans of beer being seized from their possession. According to Police, the arrest was made following a tip received by Police Intelligence, which hinted that alcohol was being brought on to the mainland from a safari.

The pair were caught with the efforts of Special Operations officers in Hulhumale’ and Police Intelligence on the 2nd of November, while the pair were on their way on a motorcycle on street 6 of Rabarugas Magu.

The pair are said to have discarded two bags on to the road, which, upon inspection, confirmed to be cans of beer.

While no further details have been revealed with regards to the matter, Police are said to be further investigating the case.
