Male’, Maldives – The Ministry of Education has given permission for preschools in the atolls to reopen.
Education Ministry said that after reviewing the current state of Covid-19 in Maldives, and after discussions with Health Protection Agency (HPA), they have decided to allow atoll preschools to operate again.
Preschools and schools in atolls that teach foundation stage, will be allowed to bring in children and carry out activities appropriate for kindergarteners, it was announced.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, all schools were notified to stop physical classes and were only allowed to reopen on July first. However, due to a surge in Covid-19 cases, schools in Male’ were closed again just a month later, in August.
Currently, schools in the capital are only teaching above the 6th grade.
After lockdown restrictions in Male’ were eased, the city saw a surge in cases, which now have decreased. Other restrictions enforced due to Covid-19 are also being eased.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives have now surpassed 12,000 . While 23 people tested positive for the virus on Monday, 40 people have completely recovered from the virus over the past 24 hours according to HPA. Along with these 40 recoveries, the total recoveries have now reached 11,132. The recovery rate has increased rapidly from less than 60% to 92% over the past months.
