Male’, Maldives – The Foreign Minister of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid holds a virtual meeting with the Minister of State (Minister for South Asia and Commonwealth) at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon.
On 18th November, Foreign Minister Shahid tweeted, announcing that he had “a very productive call” with a dear friend from the United Kingdom.
During their call, the two Ministers talked about multiple things including the importance of tackling the climate changes the country faces. They further discussed about the upcoming Climate Ambition Summit and the COP26.
The COP26 is a 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference which is scheduled to be held from 1st November till 12th of 2021. This conference will be held by the UK Government.
In addition to this, the two Ministers also talked about eliminating tariff on the Maldivian fish that is exported to the United Kingdom as well as about the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting that is scheduled to be held on 2021.
Maldives and the United Kingdom have always had a close relation as the two countries have been cooperative regarding areas of mutual interest such as climate change and counter terrorism, which is why, the Ministers expresses confidence in their cooperation and further support for the bilateral and international relationships the two countries will face in the future.
