Male’, Maldives – Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) has forecasted harsh weather in different parts of Maldives from evening onwards.
According to MET, the Tropical Cyclone Burevi is now at approximately 200 kilometres southeast of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. MET said that it is currently intensifying and is forecasted to be going towards the southeast of the Indian Ocean.
In addition to this, the MET office stated that the while the whole country is expected to face harsh weather over the upcoming days, the northernmost islands of Maldives are mostly likely to experience a lot of heavy rain along with thunderstorms as well.
As the wind speed is also expected to be high during the time period, MET warned all travelers to avoid using the sea routes or to be well aware of the condition of the sea and to be caution of it before travelling.
The Maldives Nation Defense Force (MNDF) instructed the people to inform the authorities before travelling via sea route and to ensure that the watercraft has lifejackets and other requirements such as the pump to take water out of the boat is in good condition before travelling.
If any incident occurs to any sea traveler, MNDF requests to immediately contact the toll free, Maldivian coastguard number, 191, which is available round the clock.
