STELCO MD

Male’, Maldives – MDP Member of Bilehdhoo constituency, Ahmed Haleem accuses the Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Hassan Mughnee of deliberately increasing the electricity bills of the country.

While speaking at the last parliament session of this year, MP Haleem called on to the government to immediately change the MD of STELCO as he is trying to bring down the incumbent government.

MD is deliberately increasing the electricity bills and sending it to the citizens to lower the reputation of this government.

MDP Member of Bilehdhoo constituency, Ahmed Haleem stated.

MP Haleem further stated that STELCO is sending the electricity bills increased by a double amount to the citizens and that it is necessary to immediately depose the MD of STELCO from his position.

The bills that are actually at MVR 2,000 are being sent at MVR 4,000 deliberately. When a problem arises and the company is questioned, they say that it is either a typing mistake, a mistake from the systems or a mistake made by the computers.

MDP Member of Bilehdhoo constituency, Ahmed Haleem stated.

While noting the pledge made by the incumbent government to make the electricity cheaper is a very important pledge, MP Haleem said that several things still need to be done to fulfill this promise.

However, MP Haleem mentioned that as it is a vision of the incumbent party, MDP, to use renewable energy in the country to generate electricity, the government is working hard on proceeding with those plans.

As a part of this, the Environment Minister of Maldives, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan recently revealed that the country is preparing to build a 36 Megawatt floating solar PV hybrid system in Male’ with the help of World Bank.

While speaking at a television program, Minister Hussain said that the governments aim is to change the way the citizens are using electricity so the amount of wastage will decrease in the country.
