Maldives-China to hold Director-General Level Bilateral Consultations

Male’, Maldives – Foreign Ministry has announced that Director General level bilateral consultations between the Maldivian government and the Chinese government are to be held tomorrow.

The use of such Director General level meetings is to find ways for the implementation of ways decided by the leaders of both countries.

Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Amin Javed Faizal is to lead the Maldives Delegation, and Deputy Director General at the Asian Affairs Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Mr. Chen Song will lead the Chinese Delegation for the meeting between the two governments.

Foreign Ministry said that the meeting aims to enhance bilateral coordination between the two countries on mutual areas of cooperation, and that the meeting will touch upon topics relating to the situation surrounding the COVID-19 global pandemic, economic recovery, including on tourism cooperation and international travel. In addition this both countries will also discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation and also cooperation at the multilateral level.

The Foreign Ministry further mentioned that China was among the first countries to offer its generous assistance to the Maldives relief efforts in order to overcome the losses incurred during the pandemic and that it continues to cooperate closely with the Maldives Government on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

In addition to this, it was noted that Maldives and China regularly hold bilateral consultations, with the most recent one having taken place in July this year, also at the level of Director-General.
