Male’, Maldives – A new COVID-19 testing laboratory at has been opened at Velana International Airport (VIA) today, by ADK Hospital in association with Lux Resort and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA).
The laboratory was opened by Minister of Tourism Dr.Abdullah Mausoom at a special ceremony held this morning for the opening of the laboratory. With the opening of the labs, collection of samples and testing will be made much easier. In addition to this, samples collected from the post at TMA and samples brought from different resorts and islands can also now be tested at the laboratory. A sample drop-off point has been developed at the ferry terminal as well.
The laboratory is also expected to increase the testing capacity of ADK hospital to 2000 tests per day and will also increase the efficiency of the testing process. The laboratory is to use
Furthermore, the prices PCR testing has also been lowered. From now on, locals doing PCR tests will be charged MVR 1000, which is a decrement of MVR 200 and tourists are to be charged USD 70 which is 10 dollars cheaper compared to the previous price.
Till now, 13,524 people have tested positive for Covid-19 from Maldives. While 12,960 people have fully recovered from the disease, 48 people have passed away due to Covid-19 in Maldives. Though the number of people testing positive for Covid-19 is decreasing, Health Protection Agency (HPA) and other health officials continue to urge the public to keep adhering to the safety guidelines for the safety of everyone.
