Male’, Maldives – The President’s Office on Friday has disclosed details regarding the National Awards, which is scheduled to be conferred by the President tomorrow night, including the recipients of the different awards.
According to the President’s Office, while the National Award of Honour is to be presented to 14 individuals, the National Award of Recognition is to be given to 24 individuals this year. The winners were selected by the National Awards Committee, established by the President for the task. The committee also noted that 6 of the 14 winners of the National Award of Honour had won the National Award of Recognition in previous years.
In addition to this, 20 individuals are to receive the President’s National Award for Special Achievement this year. The recipients of these awards were selected by the Specials Achievement Awards Committee, also established by the President for the task. Of these, 13 are individuals who had achieved the highest rank in their course at their higher education institution, 6 are individuals who had achieved the highest position in an international competition or exhibition, and one individual who had achieved exceptional distinction in completing studies at MQA rank 10.
In addition, the President will also confer special medals to four individuals who have memorised the Holy Quran entirely while attaining the highest grade.
The awards are to be presented in a special function held to commemorate this year’s National Unity Day, at 2030 hours at Republic Square in Malé City. During the ceremony, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will address the nation followed by which the Minister of Home Affairs, Imran Abdullah will deliver his remarks regarding National Unity Day. The ceremony will also include a moment of silence in remembrance of those who were lost or had lost their lives in the 2004 tsunami disaster. Guidelines of Health Protection Agency are to be followed during the ceremony.
